In one of first police encounters in many years in Uttarakhand

One of the two men who allegedly murdered Baba Tarsem Singh, head of Nanakmatta Gurdwara in Udham Singh Nagar in Uttarakhand, was killed by STF and police in an encounter in Kaliyar area in Haridwar district.
However, the second accused in the murder fled from the spot, police said.
During regular checking at Bhagwanpur in Haridwar district on Monday midnight, the police tried to stop the two accused but they tried to flee towards Kaliyar. On this, the police chased them and during this an encounter took place at Kaliyar area.
In the ensuing encounter, one of the accused was shot while the other escaped. The injured accused identified as Amarjeet Singh alias Bittu was rushed to the nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead by doctors.
STF and police teams have launched search operation to nab the absconding accused Sarabjit Singh.
On receiving information about the encounter, Haridwar Senior Superintendent of Police Parmendra Dobhal reached the hospital along with other police officers where the body of the accused was kept. A postmortem of the body is being conducted.
On the morning of March 28, two miscreants riding a motorcycle entered the Nanakmatta Gurudwara and allegedly shot the Dera chief Baba Tarsem Singh dead.
