Ashwin takes 500 wickets, still spinning strong

After having Zak Crawley caught in Rajkot in the third cricket test match against England, Ravichandran Ashwin on Friday became the ninth bowler in the test history to reach the milestone of 500 wickets.
Ashwin also became the second bowler after Muttiah Muralitharan to take 500 wickets in less than 100 tests matches. Ashwin is the second highest wicket-taker in India after Anil Kumble who is on the top with 619 wickets.
Ashwin dedicated his 500th wicket to his father. “It’s been quite a long journey. Firstly I’d like to dedicate this feat to my father. He is has been with me through thick and thin, probably had a heart-attack every time he’s watched me play.” Reacting to the achievement, father said “Ashwin made us live a dream.”
Congratulatory messages started pouring on the social media. Reacting to the feat, Kumble said “you (Ashwin) should be finishing around 625 or 630 not below that.
Cricket great Sachin Tendulkar said “in AshWin the SpinNER, there was always a WINNER. 500 wickets is a huge milestone in Test cricket. Congratulations, Champion!.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated Ashwin saying his journey and accomplishments are testament to his skill and perseverance. “My best wishes as he scales further peaks,” Modi said.
