With her father in law and former cabinet minister Harak Singh Rawat facing inquiry on illegal felling of over 6000 trees in Corbett National Park, former Miss India contestant Anukriti Gusain on Saturday resigned from Congress apparently to join BJP.
The sources said Gusain, a model, wants to join BJP and is in touch with the top state party leaders in this regard. The BJP source however said the party may not consider the proposal in case Gusain tries to join it. “Everybody knows why she wants to join BJP. So our answer will not be positive,” said a top BJP leader.
The sources said Rawat is also mulling to quit Congress and waiting for a green signal from BJP.
Significantly, the Enforcement Directorate also had summoned both Rawat and her daughter in law Gusain in a money laundering case. The agency has also seized some documents in a raid conducted in their home.
In 2022, Rawat had quit BJP to join Congress. But he was denied ticket by Congress high command and instead his daughter in law Gusain fought elections on Congress ticket from Lansedown assembly seat where she was defeated by BJP’s Dilip Singh Rawat.
