The murder of Ankita Bhandari, a 19 year old resort receptionist, on Sunday came back to haunt the Dhami government after her mother claimed that no action has been initiated against BJP MLA Renu Bisht and RSS leader Ajay Kumar, whose names have surfaced in the case.

A local court hearing the Ankita Bhandari murder case was recently told by Deepak, a JCB driver that he was called twice to raze parts of the Vanantra Resort which was operated by the main accused Pulkit Arya. The first time the demolition was carried out under the then sub-divisional magistrate and later on the direction of Yamkeshwar MLA Renu Bisht, he claimed.

Bhandari, who was working as receptionist in Vanatra Resort, was murdered in September 2022 and her body was thrown into the nearby Chilla canal near the holy city of Rishikesh. Later, Arya, the owner of the resort, was arrested. Arya’s father Vinod Arya was a BJP leader, who has since been expelled from the party.

Soni Devi, mother of Ankita Bhandari, alleged that her daughter is being denied justice as false cases have been filed against social activist Ashutosh Negi, who is providing legal and other aids in the case. A tearful Devi in a video also claimed that Negi’s wife has also been transferred to the remote PIthoragarh hills from Dehradun.  Devi further claimed that no action has been taken against MLA BIsht and SDM, whose names surfaced in the case.

She further claimed that she would commit suicide if no action was taken on the issues she raised.

State Congress President Karan Mahara sharing the video has asked Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to answer the questions raised by Soni Devi immediately.

On the other hand, Manvir Chauhan, the state BJP spokesman, said Congress leaders were making unrestrained statements in the case due to the frustration caused by a series of electoral defeats. He also threatened to launch legal action if Congress made false statements. Ends
