All govt employees to register their marriages after Mar 26, 2010 under UCC

Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Radha Raturi has asked all the District Magistrates and department heads to ensure registration of marriages after March 26, 2010 of all government employees under the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), an official statement said on Monday.

Under the UCC, the registration of marriages that took place after 26.03.2010 has been made mandatory, the Chief Secretary said in her letter to the concerned top officials.

In this regard, the District Nodal Officers nominated for the UCC will complete the marriage registration of all married employees working in all the 13 districts in a timely manner. A report will be regularly provided by each district to the Home Secretary.

The Chief Secretary said a nodal officer should be nominated by the concerned Additional Chief Secretary / Principal Secretary / Secretary in each department, who will ensure the marriage registration of married personnel of his department.

Similarly, all the department heads should direct their subordinate married employees to compulsorily register their marriage on the UCC portal. All the District Magistrates and Department Heads will ensure that this work is completed in a timely manner and its weekly report will be sent to the Secretary, Home, Uttarakhand Government.

To ensure registration on the UCC portal, Director ITDA has been directed to provide necessary technical support to all districts and departments. If any district or department needs technical support, they will immediately coordinate with the Director, ITDA.

Fulfilling the BJP’s 2022 election promise, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Jan 27 this year announced that the UCC has come into effect in Uttarakhand. Dhami also issued an official notification through remote control for implementing the UCC.

After the issuance of the notification, the rules of the UCC Uttarakhand 2024 Act have also been formulated.

The Chief Minister said a portal and mobile app have also been launched for the UCC so that all the facilities like registration and appeals are done through online.
