After Uttar Pradesh and many other BJP-ruled states, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Sunday declared the Hindi film “The Sabarmati Report” tax-free which is based on the horrific Godhra train fire incident in Gujarat in 2002.
Dhami made the announcement after he watched the film ‘The Sabarmati Report’ at the Centrio Mall in Hathibarkala area in Dehradun. This film is based on the incident of fire in the Sabarmati Express train in Godhra on February 27, 2002 which triggered the massive communal riots in Gujarat. Nearly 60 Hindu devotees returning from Ayodhya were burnt alive in the train fire incident.
The Chief Minister appreciated the movie and lauded the efforts to bring truth behind the Godhra train fire incident.
The Chief Minister said the film ‘The Sabarmati Report’ will be made tax free in Uttarakhand. Vikrant Massey who is in the lead role was also present on this occasion. Other actors of the films include Rashi Khanna and Riddhi Dogra.
Earlier, Massey called on the Chief Minister at his residence. On this occasion, Cabinet Ministers Premchand Aggarwal, Ganesh Joshi, Subodh Uniyal, Rajya Sabha MP and State President of BJP Mahendra Bhatt, Lok Sabha MP Mala Rajyalakshmi Shah, MLAs Khajan Das, Umesh Sharma Kau, Sahdev Singh Pundir and Savita Kapoor were also present.
Produced by Shobha Kapoor and his daughter Ektaa Kapoor, Amul V Mohan and Anshul Mohan, the film is directed by Dheeraj Sarna.
Uttarakhand is the seventh BJP-ruled state to declare the film tax free. Earlier, the governments of Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Rajasthan and Gujarat have already made the film tax-free.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also praised the film saying the truth is coming out. “…It is good that this truth is coming out and that too in a way common people can see it. Fake narratives can persist only for a limited period of time. Eventually, the facts will always come out”, the Prime Minister said on X.
