A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5 on the Richter scale rocked kodari area in Nepal early on Friday, the USGS said.
The tremor which was recorded at around 0236 hours by USGS at a depth of 10 km was also felt in nearby areas around Sikkim and parts of Bihar in India.
National Earthquake monitoring and Research Centre in Nepal however said the tremor measured 6.1 on the Richter scale which could not be verified by other earthquake monitoring agencies. The National Centre of Seismology (NCS) in New Delhi also said the quake was of 5.5 magnitude.
However, no loss of life or property was reported from any part of these areas.
Another earthquake of 4.5 magnitude around 0514 hours on Friday morning was recorded in Pakistan, NCS said.
On early Thursday, an earthquake with magnitude 5 struck Assam’s Morigaon at 0225 hours.
Parts of Odisha and West Bengal were jolted by a tremor of 5.1 magnitude struck deep into the Bay of Bengal.
Significantly, three earthquakes were of 5 or above 5 magnitudes and occurred in a gap of four days.
On Feb 17, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to X to urge people in Delhi and nearby areas to stay calm and follow safety precautions after tremors were felt. He has also cautioned people for possible aftershocks.
