After 17 years, man held for alleged embezzlement

The Special Task Force (STF) of the Uttarakhand police on Monday arrested an accountant of Piran Kaliyar Sharif Dargah in Haridwar district, who had allegedly absconded after allegedly embezzling Rs 1.25 crore 17 years ago.

STF Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ayush Agarwal said Jamal Khan, a resident of Ganj area of ​​Rampur district of Uttar Pradesh, was a criminal with a reward of Rs 25,000 on his head.

He said that on the basis of a confidential information, the police reached Ganj area and arrested him and brought him to Roorkee police station of Haridwar district.

Aggarwal said that Khan had allegedly embezzled Rs 1.25 crore by tampering with the documents of Piran Kaliyar Dargah in 2007 and before that, in connection with which a case was registered in Roorkee in October 2007 under Section 409 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The accused had absconded after the case was registered. He remained out of the reach of the police by hiding his identity for the last 17 years.
