Controversy over a picture on X

President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday presented Bharat Ratna award to former Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani, who pioneered a campaign for building the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
A picture posted by the President on X of the ceremony where she is seen standing while Advani and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are sitting also caused controversy with netizens raising objections.
After the presenting the highest civilian award, the President described Advani as a doyen of Indian politics and said he has served the nation with unwavering dedication and distinction for over seven decades.
Modi in his reaction of X said it was very special to witness the conferring of the Bharat Ratna upon Advani. This honour is a recognition of his enduing contributions to our nation’s progress. His dedication to public service and his pivotal role in shaping modern India have left an indelible mark on our history, he said. “I am proud to have got the opportunity to work with him very closely over the last several decades,” Modi said.
BJP rose to power at the centre in 1990s largely because of the Ram Mandir campaign led by Advani across the country at the time when Congress had started losing its mass base due to its poor leadership.
