After the tearful cremation of the slain Indian Navy Officer Lieutenant Vinay Narwal in Karnal town of Haryana, the scene of the immersion of his ashes in the holy river Ganga at Haridwar was equally heart-rending on Friday.
A distraught father Rajesh Narwal arrived in Haridwar carrying the ashes. The senior Narwal, a government officer, had never imagined in his wildest dream that he would live for the day when he would immerse the ashes of his own son in the holy river Ganga. Lt Vinay Narwal was killed in the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22.
Moments after immersing the ashes, Narwal broke down and cried, a scene that was difficult to describe.
With the ashes disappearing in the waters of Ganga, Rajesh Narwal virtually felt completely broken. He was given support by the other family members on the bank of Ganga as he continued to cry loudly.
Meanwhile, senior Narwal urged the government to take steps to stop the Pahalgam-like massacres. “My son has gone but I would like to urge the government to take all steps so that such incidents should not be repeated,” Narwal said. “I am totally blackout. I don’t know what is being shown on TV channels and social media,” he said.
He also thanked the world and the whole country in particular for showing solidarity and support with him and his family in the hour of grief.
