In the neighbouring New Zealand, former Prime Minister Jacinda Arden got married only after quitting the top job. She had actually planned her wedding while in office but could not do so due to the spread of the covid. Arden married her partner after five years of engagement this year.
In England, Johnson married his fiancee Carrie Symonds in a secretly-planned wedding at Westminster Cathedral when he was the Prime Minister in 2021. Johnson was the second Prime Minister of Britain to do so after Robert Banks Jenkinson married Mary Chester in 1822.
Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy married Carla Bruni when he has already entered Elysee Palace. Sanna Marin also got married in 2020 while she was holding the office of the Prime Minister of Finland. In the same year, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen married Bo Tengberg in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.
