A police station will be built at the place where illegal religious structures were demolished in Banbhulpura area triggering violence in Haldwani town of Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said on Monday.

“On the banks of the holy river Ganga, I announce that a police station will be built at the very place in Banbhulpura where arson, stone pelting and violence took place and the law was broken after the encroachment was removed,” said the Chief Minister during a public meeting at Haridwar.

The move was immediately welcomed by the BJP state unit. “We welcome the announcement of the Chief Minister to build a police station at Banbhulpura,” said Manvir Singh Chauhan, the state BJP spokesman.

Meanwhile, the Nainital district administration has decided to cancel nearly 120 arms licences in Haldwani areas in view of the Thursday’s violence which left five people dead and many injured. The violence flared up after the two illegal religious structures were demolished under the court’s orders.

On the other hand, the situation in the curfew-bound areas of the violence-hit Banbhulpur areas continued to remain under control with the no untoward incident being reported since the Thursday’s night violence. Additional para military forces have been deployed in the sensitive areas, SSP Prahalad Meena said.
