Ram Lalla idol is made of black stone: Experts
Amid the acrimony in the Uttarakhand Assembly over the colour of the idol of Ram lalla in Ayodhya, experts said the black stone known as “Krishna Shila” was chosen because of its special qualities.
The black stone does not react to anything like acid, they said. This means that when milk is poured on the idol, the stone will not react or corrode over time, they explained.
Carved by Karnataka’s renowned sculptor Arun Yogiraj, the 51-inch tall Ram idol is made from black stone and depicts the deity as a five-year-old child in a standing posture.
More than a fortnight after the grand pran pratishta ceremony of the Lord Ram temple in Ayodhya, the Uttarakhand assembly on Wednesday witnessed acrimonious scenes when Congress member Adesh Chauhan claimed that the colour of Lord Ram idol was made black which he said should be sanwala or dusky. “You changed the colour of idol of Ram in Ayodhya from sanwala to black,” Chauhan said during the UCC debate in the House.
Stung by Chauhan’s remarks, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prem Chand Agarwal took strong exception to it saying Congress was indulging in the politics of appeasement. Agarwal also accused Congress of not accepting the existence of Lord Ram.
The two leaders exchanged heated arguments over the issue prompting Speaker Ritu Khanduri to intervene and pacify them.
