Normally celebratory gunfire is a shooting of a firearm into the air. But in the Doiwala Sugar mill, it was other way around as the celebratory shot was fired in the ground, the fragments of which accidently hit a top government official, a police statement said on Saturday.
A video of this gunshot has also gone viral with SSP Dehradun Ajai Singh taking its cognizance. The SSP has ordered the Doiwala police station to register a case against security guard Subhash Verma, who made the celebratory gunshot during the unfurling of the tricolor on the Republic Day. The fragments of this gunshot hit Dinesh Pratap Singh the Executive Director of the government sugar mill. He was slightly injured and taken to a private hospital.
“At the time when the gunshot was fired, school children were also present in the Republic Day function in the mill. The incident could have become more serious,” the SSP said. A case under 26/24 of IPC 338 has been registered and other investigations are being conducted, the SSP said.
Since the injury was very minor, Singh was discharged immediately from the hospital, a police official said.
