Police gets vital clues from gangster Shashank on Reliance jewelry robbery
The Uttarakhand police on Wednesday said they have got vital clues from gangster Shashank Singh alias Sonu, who was remanded to 14 days judicial custody, regarding the looted jewelry from Reliance Jewels showroom in Dehradun on November 9 during the visit of President Draupadi Murmu.
According to police, Shashank (25) who was arrested from Patna recently, was brought to Dehradun on transit remand. “Vital information has been received from the main accused (Shashank) regarding the looted jewelry and action is being taken on it,” said a police statement.
After the sensational Reliance Jewels heist, the Uttarakhand police had announced a reward of Rs two lakh each for the gangsters involved in the crime. On Nov 9, five gangsters barged into the famous Reliance Jewels showroom at the main Rajpur Road in front of St Joseph’s Academy (SJA) School in the heart of the capital city and looted jewelry worth Rs 15 crore at gunpoint in a robbery that lasted barely less than one hour.
Significantly, Shashank was involved in many robberies in different states and was an active member of the dreaded Subodh gang.
Shashank, Subodh and other gangsters have looted 28 kg of gold from Manappuram gold shop in Bairakpur, West Bengal in 2016. The gangsters were also involved in another daring loot of 55 kg of gold from Muthoot Finance company in Asansol, West Bengal in 2017. For these crimes, these gangsters were sent to Beur jail. In the jail, the gangsters managed to learn the art of making virtual sims. Using these virtual sims, the gangsters used to make plans to commit new crimes in different areas of the country. The Nov 9 Reliance showroom robbery was also planned using virtual sim.
As of now, a total of 11 gangsters have been arrested so far in connection with the Nov 9 robbery at Reliance showroom in Dehradun. When contacted, top police officials said they would soon find out the looted jewelry. Ends
