Pilibhit tigress radio-collared, back to Tiger Reserve

A tigress which sat on a wall for hours in Pilibhit area of Uttar Pradesh this week has been radio-collared and released back into the wilderness of the Tiger Reserve, Dehradun-based Wildlife Institute of India (WII) said on Sunday.

“It is a challenge into opportunity for Pilibhit Tiger Reserve as it marks the beginning of the first-ever satellite radio collaring of tiger in Pilibhit Tiger Reserve with the technical support of WII and close monitoring and facilitation of NTCA and other agencies,” WII said.

Villagers in Pilibhit area in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday had woken up to see the tigress which was roaming around the fields of Athkona village and even climbed on a gurdwara wall with hundreds of people gathering to catch a glimpse of the big cat. The tigress remained seated on the wall for hours before being caged by the forest officials.

The videos of the tigress immediately became big hit on the social media.

The forest officials however said the tigress is healthy and strong.
