Dec 16-17 Valley of Words festival all set to begin

There is a surprise element in every valley of words festival, which has now become a hallmark of Dehradun city.

This time, it is an exhibition narrating the story of the manuscripts dating back to 12 BC which will be a special attraction of the Valley of Words 2023, a literature and arts festival. The festival will showcase 100 authors, 12 book launches and three exhibitions.

“We will be exploring the echoes of ancient knowledge preserved in the pages of history in our exhibition called Evam Vadati Pustakam,” said Sanjeev Chopra, the founder of the Valley of Words. The two day festival which begins in the Hotel Mahduban  in Dehradun on Saturday brings a plethora of events on different topics.  Governor Gurmit Singh will inaugurate the festival.

“Looking Beyond Chipko” is another exhibition which will touch the importance of the ecology.  “Definitely it is just not an embrace of trees. We are going beyond the topic touching the importance of the entire ecology of the Himalayan region and even holding discussions on the hot topics like climate change,” said Chopra.

And as the sun sets on Dehradun horizon, ITC Sangeet Research Academy will present evening ragas such as raga durbari to freshen the mood. The next very morning, the Academy will come out with the Morning ragas.

Besides, there is going to be an art exhibition also and a mushaira will also be organized.

Special tributes will also be paid to three well-known writers of Dehradun – late S K Dass, late Pradeep Singh and late Raj Kanwar.
