Three traders arrested for supplying adulterated kuttu atta

Three traders, including two from Saharanpur, have been arrested after over 300 people were taken ill in Dehradun early Monday when they ate contaminated food made of kuttu atta, police said.

Deepak Mittal and Nalnish Mittal, who are Saharanpur-based traders, along with Shishupal Singh of Vikasnagar in Dehradun were arrested on Monday evening from different areas following the public outrage as kuttu atta was used for making different types of pakwan, a special food for navratri fasts.

After eating kuttu attta food, most of the people developed the symptoms of food poisoning like vomiting and were rushed to hospitals.

SSP Dehradun Ajai Singh said the condition of the most of the patients who were rushed to the government Doon and Coronation hospitals was stable.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the hospitals to inquire the health of the patients. He asked the Dehradun district administration to take stern action against the culprits.

After investigations, nearly 22 shops from where the atta was purchased have been sealed. The shop of the main distributor in Dehradun has also been sealed. FIRs have also been filed against different people who either sold or distributed the contaminated kuttu atta.

The SSP said the police investigations have found that the atta came from Saharanpur area in Uttar Pradesh where the district administration has been asked to take action against the main supplier. A police team is also being sent to Saharanpur to take further action against the supplier.
