India played a total of five matches at Dubai. Captain Rohit Sharma lost toss in all the five matches, yet India won all of them. This was the incredible report card of India in the ICC Champions Trophy. India remained ruthless to demolish the opponents and hungry to win matches in the entire tournament. A media report pointed out that it was Sharma’s 12th straight toss loss as he equaled former West Indies captain Brian Lara in losing the toss in most consecutive ODIs (men).
Someone informed that the toss loss streak of 15 for India is already the longest in this format.
Immediately after India won the ICC Champions Trophy at Dubai, legendary cricketer Kapil Dev in his straight talk with a news channel called the Indian team as the most balanced side saying nowhere in the tournament the absence of Jasprit Bumrah was felt. True! Most of the people will surely agree on what Paaji said. We all know our Paaji never throws a googly when he talks. He usually talks straight from his heart.
If we take what Paji was suggesting then the crucial question comes who will be dropped if Bumrah comes in.
The spin quartet comprising Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Varun Chakravarthy and Axar Patel performed a wonderful task to put India on the road to victory, right from the beginning till the end. And make no mistake Jadeja and Patel are good batters also. Then we are left with Yadav and Chakravarthy. Now, it will be a preposterous suggestion to the Indian selectors to take an early call. Naturally they will wait till the summer sets in, which is also the time for the Indian team to fly to England for a five test match series.
In the batting also, some changes are expected. We don’t know whether the winning captain Rohit Sharma would like to go to England or not? There are lots of people like Rishabh Pant, Yashasvi Jaiswal who are eager to play for India against England. And who can forget Nitish Reddy’s bahubali ton at the iconic MCG last year against the mighty Australian pace attack. There are others also. The task for the selectors is very tough.
Back to Dubai, undoubtedly the performance of the Indian team was like ‘the full paise wasool”. This was a rare occasion when almost all the players contributed.
