After a long gap, Captain Rohit Sharma (37) on Sunday roared back to form as he hit a dazzling century to guide India to a four-wicket victory over England at Cuttack in the second of the three-match ODI series.
“What a way to get to the HUNDRED!”, said BCCI after the Indian skipper hit his 32nd century containing 12 fours and seven sixes in the second ODI against England. He completed his century with a massive six. India has taken a decisive 2-0 lead in the ODI series.
In its second tweet on X, BCCI said “a treat for the fans in Cuttack to witness Captain Rohit Sharma at his best.”
Sharma, who was facing stinging criticism due to his poor form, also surpassed Chris Gayle’s record for the second-highest number of sixes in ODI cricket. Sharma moved past Gayle’s record of 331 and took his tally to 338 sixes in ODI during his 119-run knock off 90 balls. Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi maintains the overall record with 351 sixes in ODIs.
Irfan Pathan also took to X and said “now that’s how you get back in form. Brilliant century from Rohit Sharma.”
However, Virat Kohli, another Indian batter with poor form, was out cheaply at just five runs.
