The Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) has nabbed a teenage cyber criminal from Rajasthan for allegedly duping a resident of Dehradun of more than Rs 2.25 crore, police said on Monday.
STF Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Navneet Singh said the prime accused Neeraj Bhatt (19) was arrested from Jaipur on Saturday in the case of duping the person who is a resident of Niranjanpur area in Dehradun in September last year. The identity of the victim was not disclosed.
Singh said that a gang of cyber criminals kept the complainant under digital house arrest for nine days through voice and video calls and messages on WhatsApp by posing as Mumbai Cyber Crime Police Officer.
A mobile handset along with the SIM number of SMS alert of AU Small Finance Bank account used in the incident has been recovered from the possession of the arrested accused. During investigation, it was found that many complaints against the accused were lodged in Arunachal Pradesh and Maharashtra.
Significantly, the police has not recovered any money so far from the cyber criminal.
