Good news! Hills of Uttarakhand, Himachal and Jammu and Kashmir are all set to ring in the New Year with lots of snow this time.
After a brief spell of snowfall early this week, yet another western disturbance (WD) is building up which is likely to bring lots of snow and rains in Uttarakhand and other hills of north India including tourist resorts like Chakrata, Mussoorie, Shimla, Manali, Patnitop, Srinagar and Gulmarg.
“We will be having white new year this time due to a new WD which is coming tomorrow,” said an elated Bikram Singh, Director Met office Dehradun.
The areas above 2200 meter are likely to experience moderate snowfall, Singh said. The plains may experience moderate rainfall also, he said. The areas above 2500-3000 meters may experience heavy snowfall on Dec 28, Singh added.
An IMD forecast also said scattered to fairly widespread rainfall/snowfall is likely over western Himalayan region on Dec 27 and 28.
Meanwhile, minimum temperature below zero degree C was recorded in many areas in Kashmir and Ladakh regions, IMD said.
