A mahapanchayat organized by rightwing Hindu organizations was held on Sunday in Uttarkashi town of Uttarakhand amid 15 conditions imposed by the Uttarakhand High Court to control communal tension.
Speakers led by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Telangana T Raja asked Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to remain vigilant against growing land jihad incidents in the state.
Addressing the mahapanchayat organized by ‘Devbhoomi Vichar Manch’ and others at Ramlila Maidan against an old mosque, Raja said that he has come here from Hyderabad to ask Chief Minister Dhami to discuss the issue with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. “The way Yogi ji teaches a lesson to land jihadis in Uttar Pradesh, you (Dhami) also need to buy some bulldozers in Uttarakhand also,” Raja said.
Claiming that Dhami has the support of one crore Hindus in the state, Raja said that he should understand their sentiments.
He said, “They (Hindus) want a land jihad free Uttarakhand. Uttarakhand is heaven but the conspiracy to make it hell is being done by land jihadis, our Uttarakhand Chief Minister needs to be careful and must teach them a lesson.” He said that the mosques that are being built illegally need to be stopped.
BJP MLA from Gangotri Suresh Chauhan and Hindu leader Swami Darshan Bharti also attended the Mahapanchayat held under tight security arrangements.
In view of the ongoing dispute over the mosque, the Uttarakhand High Court on Wednesday ordered the Uttarkashi district administration to maintain law and order in the city and also keep the court informed about the situation in this regard.
The High Court gave these orders to the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police of Uttarkashi during the hearing of a petition filed by the Uttarkashi organization Minority Service Committee regarding the security of the mosque, which alleged that some organizations were threatening to demolish the mosque calling it ‘illegal’.
The Uttarkashi district administration on Friday gave conditional permission to Hindu organisations to hold a Maha Panchayat. The court imposed 15 conditions which include asking the district administration not to allow hate speeches, rallies, obstruction of traffic, incitement of religious sentiments and disruption of law and order situation.
Meanwhile, state senior Congress vice president Suryakant Dhasmana accused the BJP government of trying to polarize the state politics in order to hide its failures. He said the mahapanchayat was held at the behest of the state government and the orders of the High Court were flouted.
