Vijay Kumar, former Director General Police, UP, visited Natraj: The Green Bookshop in Dehradun at its new location opposite Van Bhawan on Rajpur Road on Saturday.
Kumar is a recipient of the President’s Gold Medal twice for his role in eliminating terrorists. Son of a police constable, he rose to be the top cop of the State by sheer dint of hard work. During his highly successful career, he has held several prestigious appointments including SSP, Nainital and Pilibhit.
An MTech from IIT, Kanpur, Kumar is an internationally acclaimed archeologist and is currently the Editor of the well sought after, International Journal of Archeology. He is versatile in Urdu and Sanskrit and is a walking encyclopedia on ancient coins in Indian history.
Kumar is in town in connection with his research on temples in Uttarakhand and was delighted to find several books of his interest in the bookstore. He expressed his appreciation and found his visit to the bookstore a rewarding experience. Kumar said he attributes his excellence to his reading habit and love for books.
He added that reading books is also the surest way to keeping fit and agile. He promised Upendra Arora, the owner of the Green Bookshop, that he would keep in touch and visit the bookstore more often.
