The Uttarakhand Power Corporation Ltd (UPCL) has strengthened and modernized its distribution system through various schemes sponsored by the central government with active participation of the state government.

The UPCL is giving emphasis on collecting online data thereby analyzing it and taking immediate decisions and implementing them. ”In the era of digitalization, with the support of the Central Government and the efforts of the State Government, the power distribution system is being strengthened and modernized through various schemes implemented by UPCL under the guidance of the Secretary Energy (R Meenakshi Sundram) ,” a top UPCL official said.

Under the RDSS scheme, UPCL is working on the establishment of the Real Time Data Acquisition System (RT-DAS) at 215 sub-stations across the state. The RT-DAS system will be installed at the sub-stations across the state in all those areas having a population of less than 25000.

Under the scheme, the RT-DAS system has been installed at 103 sub-stations across the state, which mainly includes areas like Ranipokhari, Jollygrant, Tyuni, Laltappad, Selaqui, Chipalghat, Raiwala and Chakisain, and the work of installing the system at the remaining sub-stations will be completed in a phased manner in the coming months.

Along with this, in the past also, UPCL has been using the RT-DAS system at 106 sub-stations in 66 cities across the state.

UPCL Managing Director Anil Yadav said that after successful implementation of the RT-DAS system, all the sub-stations will be monitored on real time basis, which will help in calculating planned and unplanned outages accurately. By analyzing the data, UPCL will be able to achieve great success in reducing the duration of power interruption.

With the implementation of RT-DAS system, the power system remains strong due to better monitoring at all levels by concerned engineers, UPCL officials said. The system is also helping the UPCL’s call centres to give correct information to the customers on the power situation in a particular area.
