The Uttarakhand Power Corporation Ltd (UPCL) has laid more than 4000 km of LT lines in the last two years thanks to the guidance and continuous efforts of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
Stating that the discom has made unprecedented progress in the power distribution sector in the last few years, the UPCL has been striving hard to provide electricity to every village, every house of the state. “There have been positive changes in the lifestyle of the general public due to this electrification,” a UPCL statement said.
To give more impetus to the comprehensive changes taking place in the development of the industrial sector of Uttarakhand, the power distribution sector has become strong and efficient.
In the past few years, along with the establishment of a strong power distribution system, important steps have been taken by UPCL to improve operational and business efficiency. To meet the ever-increasing demand, UPCL has constructed 4 new 33/11 kV substations in 2 years and about 242 km of 33 kV, 2045 km of 11 kV and 4101 km of LT lines in the state.
About 8266 distribution transformers have been installed to maintain power balance on all feeders across the state. Also, 1,89,804 new power connections have been installed in the last 2 years.
Special emphasis is also being laid on the implementation of Provident Fund projects to ensure high quality power supply to consumers. Under the RDSS scheme of the Government of India, the installation of smart prepaid meters for about 16 lakh consumers across the state will prove to be a boon for the consumers.
Along with this, smart meters will also be installed on 59212 distribution transformers and 2602 feeders to improve energy accounting, which will increase the digitization, automation and efficiency of the power system and also reduce power losses.
