Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) has passed on to its consumers a rebate of total Rs 324 crore in their electricity bills by adopting an innovative power purchase strategy.

Under the strategy, UPCL procured cheaper power from the short term market at a record 22% lower rate in FY 2023-24 as compared to FY 2022-23.   The average short term power purchase in FY 2022-23 was Rs 6.86 per unit which has come down to Rs. 5.35 per unit in  FY 2023-24.

By getting cheap electricity from the market, the electricity tariff of the consumers has been reduced, as a result of which it has been possible to provide smooth power supply at low rates in the state.

The discount per unit in domestic category is 26 paise to 70 paise, in Government Public Utility 95 paise, private Tubewell 31 paise, agricultural activities 43 paise,  LT Industry 94 paise, HT Industry 94 paise Mix Load 88 paise, Railway Taxation 88 paise,  EV Charging Stations 84 paise.
