Igaas celebrated in Uttarakhand with enthusiasm

Igaas, a traditional festival of lights in Uttarakhand, was on Tuesday celebrated with gaiety and fervour in the state.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami greeted the people on the occasion.

The people burst crackers and distributed sweets as part of the celebrations in both Garhwal and Kumaon regions.

Dhami celebrated the festival at his residence and played with bhailo, a traditional fire ball in the night.

Earlier in the day, Dhami also visited BJP leader Anil Baluni’s house in New Delhi as part of the festivity.

Modi on Monday visited the residence of Baluni, a Lok Sabha Member from Pauri, to attend an Igaas function and celebrated the festival with his family members.

After Modi, a host of top BJP leaders including Party President J P Nadda, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and others also visited Baluni’s house in Delhi. Dhami also flew to New Delhi to visit Banluni’s house.

Igaas is a traditional festival of lights in Uttarakhand which is also called “budhi diwali” in the state especially in the hills 11 days after Diwali. People decorate their houses, play with bhailo, a sort of fire ball on the occasion and distribute sweets.
