After Hillary Clinton, US rejects Kamala Harris

Former President Donald Trump on Wednesday declared victory as he created history by winning his second US Presidential election in the third attempt.

But in the victory of Trump, US was again deprived of getting its first female President.

Vice President Kamala Harris’ dream of becoming the first female US President was shattered by Trump, who in his first term had defeated the former First Lady Hillary Clinton. Thus Trump has the dubious distinction of stopping two women from becoming President of the US for the first time.

After Joe Biden decided to quit the presidential race, hopes have risen that US might see its first female President after the Democrats nominated Harris as its candidate for the election.

Interestingly, just like in 2016 when Hillary Clinton was defeated, the gender has not been a major talking point in the US election this time also. Harris also focused on her policies rather than seeking votes on her female credentials.

Significantly, Hillary Clinton became the first woman to win a presidential nomination by a major US political party and the first woman to win the popular vote for US President.

Similarly, Harris became the first female Vice President of the US making her the highest-ranking female official in the US history.

“I was very hopeful that US may get its first female President this time. I don’t know why they (US people) didn’t give enough votes to Kamala Harris,” said Anjali Rautela, who was closely watching the US elections.
