Uttarakhand Congress senior vice president Suryakant Dhasmana on Saturday met Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and expressed concern over the Uttarkashi situation where the communal tension is being created by some mischievous elements.
Dhasmana reminded Dhami that he is the CM of the entire state and it is his responsibility to protect the rights of every citizen irrespective of his or her religion or caste. In the past few months, some mischievous elements in different parts of the state are engaged in spoiling the communal harmony of the state, Dhasmana alleged.
Referring to recent communal tensions in Uttarkashi and some other parts of the state, Dhasmana urged the CM to direct the state administration and police to take strict action against all those people who are spoiling the atmosphere.
Dhasmana asked the CM to reconsider the decision of the Higher Education Department not to hold student union elections in the non-government colleges of the state and to hold student union elections immediately. He said that the students are angry with the decision of not holding student union elections and if the elections are not held, the anger of the students will take the form of a big state-wide movement.
Dhasmana urged the Chief Minister to safeguard the interest of nearly 22,000 Upanal employees of the state instead of filing a review petition against the recent decision of the Supreme Court. He said the state government should now make a policy regarding the adjustment of these upnal employees and regularize them in a phased manner on the basis of seniority. Dhasmana said most of these employees have been rendering their services in various departments of the state through UPNL for the past 5-20 years. By regularizing them, the government can take credit which will be a big decision in public interest.
Dhasmana alleged that a step-motherly treatment is being meted out to the government-aided colleges in the state 2019. There is a complete ban on appointments in all the non-government aided colleges of the state, due to which hundreds of posts of teachers are lying vacant in colleges like DAV, DBS, MKP, SGRR, MPG Mussoorie. The teaching work is getting affected in these colleges. In this regard, Dhasmana handed over a 20-point demand letter to the Chief Minister, which highlighted in detail the discrimination being done with the government-aided colleges.
Chief Minister Dhami patiently listened to the issues raised by Dhasmana and assured that no one will be allowed to take the law into their own hands in the state and the government is committed to everyone’s safety and security. The Chief Minister also expressed a positive attitude on the issue of student union elections and Upanal employees and assured that he would take appropriate action by examining the memorandum submitted in matters of higher education.
