After retirement, former Uttarakhand DGP Anil Raturi took a pledge that he would not sit idle at home. These days, he devotes good time to literary work, an art he knows very well. He also writes articles for newspapers.
Raturi says he has so much work to complete before he takes a break from active life. After his retirement from the office of the state police chief, Raturi immediately wrote his first book “Bhanwar Ek Prem Kahani”, a fictional novel in Hindi.
Within a short span of two years, Raturi has come out with his second book titled “Khaki mein Sthitpragya”. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami would release his book at a function in Dehradun on Saturday.
Just like his first fictional novel “Bhanwar Ek Prem Kahani”, the new book is also in Hindi which mainly deals with Raturi’s reminiscences of his life as an IPS officer mainly working in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
When asked to share his thoughts on the new book, Raturi says every human being has some emotions and experiences which he wants to share by expressing them in form of a book. It gives him tremendous relief. Secondly, every person’s story is very interesting. But very few get the opportunity and wherewithal to express these experiences in book form. “I am very fortunate to write these two books,” said Raturi. And he quickly adds that he is also getting ready to write his third book which would be in English this time.
Referring to his second book, he said a policeman’s story is always very interesting because sometimes facts are stranger than fiction. “Everyday, there is a new story. I have selected only those episodes which would be of interest to the common man, who would enjoy reading the book,” said Raturi whose career spanned nearly three and a half decades.
Through the new book, Raturi said the readers would get the opportunity of knowing the social history of that time particularly related to several big movements like the Ramjanam Bhoomi and the agitation against the Mandal Commission. “This book will be a socio-historical document also,” he said.
New police officers can also enrich their policing by reading this new book, he said.
Raturi said while his first book was purely a fictional work, in the second book, he has tried his best to bring the reality being faced by a police officer.
