Despite a wrist injury, top seed Jannik Sinner on Friday stormed into the US Open final to meet Taylor Fritz in the Championship match on Sunday.

Sinner defeated Briton Jack Draper 7-5,7-6,6-2 at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York in the semi final marred by high temperature and humidity.

After suffering the wrist injury in the second set with a medical timeout, the Italian overcame the challenge of Draper, who was also not feeling well due to vomiting and excessive heat.

This will be the first time that Sinner has entered into the US Open final. Sinner has already won the Australian Open early this year. Sinner also became the first Italian to enter the US Open final.

Remarkably, Sinner managed to win the semi-final match despite making 10 double faults. However, he also served 8 aces to show why he is favourite to win the US Open.

Sinner will now face 12 seed Fritz in the Championship match on Sunday. In the second semi-final, Fritz defeated Frances Tiafoe 4-6, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 in a five set long match.  Fritz (26) has also entered the US Open final for the first time. In all the previous Grand Slam matches, Fritz has never gone beyond the quarter-final stage.
