THDC India Limited (THDCIL) is contemplating a move to set up medical college cum hospital in Tehri district where it has also constructed its first mega hydel project.
After the completion of the hospital, it would be handed over to the Uttarakhand government for its management and operation, THDCIL Chairman cum Managing Director R K Vishnoi said in a letter to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
“During the visit of the Minister of Power (Manohar Lal Khattar) in Tehri, the need to establish a medical college cum hospital was deliberated. Based on the deliberations, it was directed that this intitiative may be undertaken by THDC India Limited amid at significantly enhancing healthcare infrastructure and educational opportunities in the region,” Vishnoi said.
This will also generate employment opportunities for residents of the state spanning from the construction phase to the ongoing operation of the facility thereby boosting the local economy livelihoods and scope for medical tourism, he said.
Meanwhile, BJP MLA fom Tehri Kishore Upadhyay has thanked Khattar for the initiative.
THDCIL is a leading joint venture power company between the government of India and the Uttar Pradesh government. The company has established its first mega Tehri hydel project on Bhagirathi river in Tehri district. The company has also ventured into solar, thermal and wind power generation.
A very good move to establish medical College in Tehri district. Uttrakhand has no medical College in hills. The first available College is either AIIMS in Rishikesh or medical College in Jolly Grant near Dehradun airport.
