Paris tally: Pak on 53, India on 64

The gold medal helped Pakistan to land in 53rd position even as India climbed to 64th position by winning two more medals at end of the day 13 on Thursday in the Paris Olympics.

US remained on the top of the medal tally winning 30 gold medals and 38 silvers.

China was closely following US as it was on the second position bagging 29 gold medals and 25 silvers. Australia was on third place with 18 gold medals.

The hosts France was on fourth place with 14 gold medals.

India improved its position to 64 from the yesterday’s 69 after Neeraj Chopra won silver medal in Javelin throw and the Indian hockey team bagged bronze. India has won one silver 4 bronze medals so far.

Arshad Nadeem’s huge throw of 92.97, a new Olympic record, gave Pakistan its first gold medal on Thursday. With this, Pakistan straightway jumped to 53rd position in the medal tally. “This is the magic of gold. Despite winning more medals, we are still far behind Pakistan,” commented Anupam Trivedi, a journalist.
