India’s ace shuttler Lakshya Sen on Thursday scored an easy victory against compatriot H S Prannoy 21-12, 21-6 to enter quarterfinals of the men’s badminton singles in the Paris Olympics.
This was for the first time in the Olympics that the two Indian badminton players clashed against each other in the last 16 stage.
Earlier, Prannoy defeated Duc Phat Le of Vietnam 16-21, 21-11, 21-12 in a hard fought match to set up a clash with Sen.
In other match, Sen outclassed the world no 3 Janatan Christie in straight sets on Wednesday. Sen (22) won 21-18, 21-12 in a high-powered match that saw the Almora boy coming from behind to outwit Christie in both the sets showing a wonderful combination of ingenuity and energy.
Sen’s entry into quarterfinals has raised hope for a medal especially in his home state Uttarakhand where people are showing lots of excitement to see him at the podium in Paris.
After the match, Sen said he was thinking about the next match and expressed optimism that he would do better and better.
