Heavy rains lashed Dehradun and other parts of Uttarakhand on Monday inundating low-lying areas.
However, no loss of life or property was reported from any part of the state due to heavy rains since Sunday night.
With the commencement of the kanwar yatra, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel were keeping a close watch in Haridwar where they rescued a couple of kanwarias from drowning in the swollen Ganga.
Dehradun recorded 120 mm of rains this morning disrupting normal life with students facing difficulties to reach schools.
“We have kept red alert in many districts particularly in Kumaon region on Sunday and Monday. As a result, heavy rain was experienced in these areas,” said Bikram Singh, Director Met office Dehradun.
As a precautionary step, the Dehradun district administration has ordered closure of schools on Tuesday. However, the met office said there may not be heavy rains in Dehradun on Tuesday. “Dehradun is under yellow alert tomorrow,” Singh said. An orange alert has been declared in Kumoan region for Tuesday.
