Uttarakhand may bring reservation for Agniveers

The Uttarakhand government is mulling to offer reservation to Agniveers in the state Police and other government departments after the completion four years in the army.

“If there is a provision of reservation for Agniveers, then we will make a provision of reservation by taking a decision in the cabinet and if any act etc. has to be made, then we will definitely bring that too in the assembly,” an official statement quoting Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said.

Dhami has instructed the top officials to prepare a proposal in this regard as soon as possible in this regard, an official statement said on Sunday. “If necessary, a proposal can also be brought in the upcoming assembly session,” the Chief Minister said.

In an informal talk with the media, Dhami also made it clear that the Agniveers who return after completing four years of army service should not remain apprehensive about their secure future.

Dhami has instructed the officials to prepare a concrete plan on the job recruitment of Agniveers.

Stating that Uttarakhand is a servicemen-dominated state, he said the youth from the hill state are recruited in the Indian Army on a large scale. Therefore, the state government will leave no stone unturned to provide employment to Agniveers, he said. The government is of the view that Agniveers should get ample opportunities in government jobs in the state, he said.

Agniveers will be fully utilized in the service of the state so that along with their employment, they can also participate in the development of the state, he said adding the Sainik Welfare Department has started preparing a proposal in this regard. “Our government is working seriously on the adjustment of Agniveers,” the Chief Minister said.

“I was born in a soldier family. When this scheme came in the country, we had a meeting with many military officers who have spent their whole life in the army. I had said in June 2022 itself that we will accommodate Agniveers in government departments. We will give them priority, Dhami said
