Two Maharashtra pilgrims among three killed in Kedarnath landslides

Three pilgrims, including two from Maharashtra, were killed and eight injured in landslides at Kedarnath area in Uttarakhand on Sunday, police said.

The landslides occurred at Chirwasa area on the Gaurikund-Kedarnath trek where a group of pilgrims were on their way to Kedarnath shrine. As the landslides occurred amid heavy rains, nearly 11 pilgrims got trapped in the landslides.

A team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) immediately rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. Three pilgrims who were buried in the landslides found dead.

However, SDRF managed to rescue nearly eight pilgrims who were rushed to nearby hospital.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed his grief over the incident and asked the Rudraprayag district administration to provide best health facilities to the injured.
