Govt to prepare action plan as IIM Rohtak submits report on Chardham yatra

The Uttarakhand government would prepare an action plan for the smooth conduct of the Chardham yatra in the light of a new report submitted by the IIM Rohtak on the carrying capacity of four Hindu shrines in the Garhwal region.

In a meeting at the state secretariat on Tuesday, Chief Secretary Radha Raturi held an in-depth discussion on the report prepared by the IIM Rohtak to improve the Carrying Capacity and SOPs of the Chardham Yatra and to make it more pleasant, smooth and safe.

During the meeting, the Chief Secretary directed that the action plan should be prepared in such a way that the Chardham Yatra be conducted in smooth and safe manner.

In the proposed action plan, special attention should be paid to issues like effective arrangements for medical and emergency services for the pilgrims, effective management and monitoring of the Yatra and strengthening the local economy while preserving the local ecology.

The Chief Secretary said the priority should be given to improve the roads and the vehicular traffic system. Special attention should be give to solve the problem of overcrowding in the first 40 days of the opening of the Chardham shrines’ portals. A feedback should also be taken from pilgrims while preparing the action plan, she said.

In the meeting, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) card based registration system and AADHAR based registration were discussed to simplify the registration system of pilgrims.  Besides, implementation of an SMS Weather Update System, providing medical facilities on the yatra route under the PPP mode or CSR funds, implementation of batch-wise darshan system and review of the parking facilities were also discussed.

Additional Chief Secretary, Secretary Tourism, Commissioner Garhwal along with other officers and Director of IIM Rohtak and his team were present in the meeting.
