Forest Minister says 1.64 cr trees to be planted this year

Uttarakhand on Tuesday celebrated Harela festival with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami setting a target of planting 50 lakh trees in the hill state.
Participating in a Harela festival programme in Dehradun, the Chief Minister said his government would helm the tree plantation campaign on a large scale till August 15.
In the same programme, state Forest Minister Subodh Uniyal said a target has been set to plant 1.64 crore saplings in the state this year.
The two leaders also expressed concern over the global warming and rapid melting of glaciers. The two leaders called upon the people to plant trees and conserve water.
During the program, the Chief Minister also planted saplings in memory of the martyred soldiers in Kathua, Jammu and the forest workers who died in the forest fire in Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary.
“The abnormal rise in temperature this summer is a matter of concern for everyone. The nature has given everything to Uttarakhand and it is our responsibility to use the resources provided by the nature properly. Everyone has to make joint efforts towards tree plantation and water conservation,” the Chief Minister said.
Chief Secretary Radha Raturi congratulated the state people on the occasion of Harela festival and asked them to plant at least one tree in memory of their mothers. Former DGP Anil Raturi also planted a tree on the occasion.
