The portals of Badrinath shrine in the Garhwal Himalayas in Uttarakhand were closed on Saturday signaling the end of the Chardham yatra in the region.

Priests offered prayers and recited vedic hymns as the portals of Badrinath were closed at 1533 hours. During the winter period, Lord Badri will be worshiped in Narsimha temple at Joshimath.

Kedarnath and Yamunotri shrines also nestling in the Garhwal Himalayas  were closed on Wednesday. Gangotri shrine was closed on Tuesday in Uttarakashi district.

With the closure of the all the four shrines, the Chardham yatra came to an end. The deities of all the four shrines were taken to their wintery sojourn where they will be worshiped in the next 5-6 months.

This season (April-November), nearly 54 lakh pilgrims have so far visited the high altitude chardham shrines nestling in the Garhwal Himalayas.  Ends
