UK’s first film city to be built in Dehradun

Uttarakhand’s first film city will be built in Dehradun at an area of 107 acres, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced on Monday. The film city is likely to be named as Dollywood, informed sources said.

During a meeting of the department of industries and the State Industrial Development Corporation of Uttarakhand Ltd (SIDCUL) in the state secretariat, the Chief Minister directed the officials to start the process of construction of the film city in Dehradun at the earliest. For this, 107 acres of land has been identified, he said.

For expediting the projects, the Chief Minister directed the officials to prepare a complete calendar of the on-going projects in the state. Clear details including timeline of the projects which will be completed in two years should be presented soon, he said.

He said that the convention center in Laltappad area in Dehradun should be completed by July 2026. The convention center is to be built in on 57 acres of land, he said.

Besides Haridwar, flatted factories should also be built in Udham Singh Nagar district and Selaqui in Dehradun. The process of construction of flatted factories on 500000 square feet of land in Haridwar is in progress, he said.

He stressed the need for special efforts to promote industries in hilly areas. The Chief Minister directed that Rural Business Incubators should be promoted rapidly in hilly areas. These will play an important role in connecting youth and women with the self-employment schemes.

The meeting was informed that nearly 50000 people have got employment under the Chief Minister’s Self-Employment Scheme. The Chief Minister directed that this scheme should be promoted widely so that people get maximum benefit from it. Chief Minister Self-Employment Scheme Nano should also be added to the Chief Minister Self-Employment Scheme. If there is a need to increase the budget under the CM Self-Employment Scheme, then a proposal should be brought.

To double the state’s GDP by 2028, a target of investment of Rs 90000 crores has been set in the manufacturing sector by 2028. The Chief Minister said that work should also be done on the basis of best practices of other states for industrial development.

Chief Secretary Radha Raturi, Additional Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, Principal Secretary  R.K. Sudhanshu, Secretary Industries Vinay Shankar Pandey, Additional Secretary Vijay Jogdande, Director General Industries Rohit Meena and related officers were present in the meeting.
