UK to develop top-class registration system for Chardham yatra

Amid the unprecedented huge rush, the Uttarakhand government on Tuesday said it would rope in an IT consultancy company to develop a high-quality online registration system for the pilgrims visiting the Chardham shrines in the hill state.

State Chief Secretary Radha Raturi issued directions on developing the IT system to the government officials dealing with the management of the Chardham Yatra. She also said such system should be developed as soon as possible and asked the officials to hold consultations with hoteliers, tour operators and other stakeholders associated with the Chardham yatra.

Considering that the field officials in the Chardham Yatra are the most important link in yatra management, the Chief Secretary visited the Yatra Registration Office and transit camps in Rishikesh and sought suggestions from all the officials, especially the junior officers working in the field in preparing SOPs for the management of the yatra.

Raturi said due to the efficient management of all the officers associated with the Chardham Yatra management, especially the field officers, the Chardham Yatra in the state is being conducted smoothly, systematically and successfully after some initial challenges and hiccups. As of now, only 3000 pilgrims are present at various transit points in Rishikesh and Haridwar, They are being sent for the chardham yatra, she noted. As the yatra is being conducted smoothly now, the online registration system will soon be opened again which was closed till May 31, she said.

Raturi also asked the District Magistrates dealing with the Chardham yatra to develop new transit areas for the pilgrims and also new parking facilities keeping in view the overcrowding.

The CS also issued instructions to strictly follow the trip card system.

Raturi who reached the Yatra Registration Office and Transit Camps in Rishikesh, inspected the arrangements and held a meeting with the concerned officials. Commissioner Garhwal Vinay Shankar Pandey, District Magistrate Dehradun, Tehri, Senior Superintendent of Police Tehri and officials related to Chardham Yatra were present in the meeting.
