Hemkund Sahib, the Sikh shrine nestling in the Garhwal Himalayas in Chamoli district of Uttarkahand will be thrown open for pilgrims on May 25, it was officially announced on Wednesday by the gurdwara trust.
In the presence of Uttarakhand Governor Lt Gen (retd) Gurmeet Singh, the first jatha of Panj Pyaras from Rishikesh began journey for Hemkund Sahib. The Governor and former chief minister Harish Rawat greeted the pilgrims who are going to Hemkund Sahib.
Meanwhile, the army personnel are removing the snow to prepare trek for the pilgrims going to Hemkund. “We are hopeful that the trek will be prepared before May 25,” said a government official.
