After its thrilling victory against Gujarat Titans, Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capital will take on Mumbai Indians in a yet another interesting clash at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Saturday.
Naturally, Pant would like to repeat his scintillating performance against GT as he looks desperate to come back in the Indian team.
Delhi Capitals had scored a thrilling 4 runs victory against Gujarat Titans in the IPL and Pant made swashbuckling knocks of 88 remaining unbeaten.
Roorkee-born Pant, who recently recovered from a car accident, hit 30 runs in the last over smashing four sixes and one four. At 43-3, Pant joined Axar Patel to propel DC to a formidable total of224 for 4 in a crucial must-win encounter. Pant scored eight sixes and five fours in his dazzling 88 off 43. Patel scored 66 off 43.
Chasing 225, GT could make 220 runs despite David Miller scoring a quick-fire 55 runs and Sai Sudershan making 65 off 29.
This was DC’s fourth victory in nine matches. One more victory means that DC will remain in contention.
Pant through his blistering 88 reminded the selectors that he was ready to make a comeback in the team.
This was Pant’s highest score in the IPL season after he met with the accident on Delhi-Dehradun national highway when he was returning to his home town of Roorkee in Uttarakhand. He was driving a Mercedes car when the accident occurred in the early hours on Dec 30, 2022.
The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) will finalise India’s squad for the upcoming T20 world cup. Pant is one of the contenders for the selection.
