The people, especially women, in Uttarakhand are affected by diseases like osteoporosis and anemia due to lack of sunlight and local food habits, President Droupadi Murmu said on Tuesday.
“In Uttarakhand, due to lack of sunlight and local food habits, people, especially women, are affected by diseases like osteoporosis and anemia,” she said.
Even in this era of global medicine, researching and solving national, regional and local problems related to medicine should be the priority of institutions like AIIMS Rishikesh, the President said speaking at the 4th convocation of AIIMS Rishikesh.
She said that providing world-class education and service in the field of medicine is a great national achievement of all AIIMS, including AIIMS Rishikesh. All the AIIMS are recognised for providing the best and affordable treatment. Many AIIMS are being established in different parts of the country with the objective that more and more people can benefit and more meritorious students can get education in AIIMS.
Noting that more than 60 percent of students at AIIMS Rishikesh are girl students, the President said that the increasing participation of women in areas ranging from policy making to tertiary healthcare presents a picture of a huge and positive social change.
The President said that using the latest technology in the interest of the society should be the priority of institutions like AIIMS Rishikesh. She was happy to note that AIIMS Rishikesh is striving to move forward in the field of CAR T-cell therapy and Stem Cell Research. She urged this institution to move forward rapidly by collaborating in such areas. She stated that the role of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics will continue to increase in diagnostics and treatment. She expressed confidence that these changes will be increasingly put to efficient use by the AIIMS Rishikesh.
Murmu said that in Uttarakhand, there are many health centers serving the treatment methods of Indian tradition including Ayurveda and in AIIMS Rishikesh, along with allopathy, AYUSH treatment methods are also being provided to the patients.
She said, ‘I would like that by providing excellent health services on a large scale, the fame of this Devbhoomi (Uttarakhand) should also be established as Arogya Bhoomi”.
In this regard, she said that even in our ancient epics, the areas of Uttarakhand have been associated with medicine and treatment. The President said that according to the story of Ramayana, Hanuman ji had reached Lord Shri Ram and Lakshman ji by air with Sanjeevani herb from this area and had contributed in the treatment of Lakshman ji.
The President also expressed happiness over the increasing participation of women in areas ranging from policy making to tertiary healthcare in India’s economy and described it as a big and good social change.
Murmu expressed the need for institutions like AIIMS Rishikesh to research and solve national, regional and local problems and asked them to pay more attention to public health and community participation.
Degrees were given to 598 students in the convocation ceremony in which those who secured the highest position in the examination were awarded 16 medals including 14 gold medals.
MBBS course was started in AIIMS Rishikesh from the year 2012 and in the last 12 years, AIIMS Rishikesh has given 574 doctors to the country.
Uttarakhand Governor Gurmeet Singh was also present in the convocation.
Murmu reached here in the evening on her two-day tour of the state. On Wednesday, she will participate as the chief guest in the convocation ceremony of the training course for Indian Forest Service officers at the Gandhi National Forest Academy, Dehradun.
