40.46 % voting in Nainital by 1300 hours

The voting for the five Lok Sabha seats in Uttarakhand picked up momentum in the afternoon on Friday with 37.33 percent of the electorate casting their franchise by 1300 hours.
More than 83 lakh Electorate in Uttarakhand are eligible for the voting which is being held in the first of the seven-phased elections culminating on June 1. The results will be declared on June 4.
Barring at couple of booths where long queues were seen, the voting was slow in the morning. However, as the day progressed, the medium to brisk voting was seen in many polling booths in the state. Nainital constituency was on the top in the brisk voting as nearly 40.46 percent of the total electorate had cast their franchise by 1300 hours.
The main battle appeared to be in the Pauri-Garhwal constituency where BJP spokesman Anil Baluni is pitted against former Congress state chief Ganesh Godiyal. Both the parties are claiming victories in Pauri.
In Haridwar, former Chief Minister Harish Rawat’s son Virendra, who is making his election debut in this seat having sizeable Muslim population, is facing a stiff challenge from former Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat (BJP) and Umesh Kumar, an MLA.
In rest of the three seats, Tehri, Nainital and Almora – the BJP candidates Mala Raj lakshmi Shah, Ajay Bhatt and Ajay Tamta are having an edge over their rivals.
