Gas leakage in Jhajra area in Dehradun

Panic gripped the Jhajra area of Dehradun early Tuesday following chlorine gas leakage with police filing a case against two persons.

After getting information of the gas leakage, the teams of SDRF and NDRF rushed to the spot and stopped the leakage by disposing off the leaking cylinders. Some residents were also evacuated. Fire tenders were also called in.

The gas was leaking from some cylinders which were kept in a vacant plot in the area.

A case has been filed against the plot owner Deepak Gupta and the caretaker of the plot Narendra Kumar, SSP Dehradun Ajai Singh said. The case has been filed under section 336/278/120-B of the IPC in the Prem Nagar police station on complaint filed by Jhahra Chowki incharge sub-inspector Deepak Maithani.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed concern over the gas leakage incident and ordered an inquiry into it, an official statement said. Dhami also instructed the officials to make sure that such incidents do not recur in future. He asked the departments of the industry and labour to take extra care.

Police said the locals were complaining about dizziness and burning sensations and were asked to close their windows and doors.
