India coalition is intact: Rawat

Despite some squabbling in the opposition camp, senior Congress leader Harish Rawat on Thursday said the India coalition was intact and would collectively fight the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
“The India coalition is still intact and will collectively fight the 2024 election,” said Rawat, who staged a sit-in strike in Dehradun on the issues related to farmers, a day before the global summit.
Referring to the Congress, the former chief minister said the party would stage a comeback in 2024 as it had done in 2004 when the BJP-led coalition lost at the hustings. “We will never lose our morale. In 2003 also, the results (in these states) were same. But the Congress tightened its belt and formed the government at the centre. Similarly, we will again form government in 2024 also,” said Rawat.
On the issue of farmers, he said the farmers are feeling insulted and neglected. The government has still not declared the state advised price (SAP) for the sugarcane. “Farmers are demanding Rs 450-500 price this season. We are saying if not Rs 450 give at least Rs 425,” Rawat said. He also claimed that the government has still not paid the remaining dues of Rs 100 crore of the Iqbalpur sugar mill.
Stating that he was not opposed to the global summit, he said he wanted to tell the government that farmers are also real investors. “You bring all those investors but don’t forget our farmers who are feeling neglected and insulted,” he said. Ends
