Anti-narcotic personnel arrested three persons from Uttar Pradesh on Friday following a raid in a factory manufacturing psychotropic substances illegally in Sahaspur area of Dehradun district in Uttarakhand, police said.
Based on confidential information, a joint operation was carried out by the police, drug department and Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) at Green Herbal Company located on Langha Road on the outskirts of Dehradun, in which a large quantity of illegal narcotic drugs and syrups were recovered from the factory.
Police said that factory owner Sanjay Kumar and his two partners – Shivkumar and Rehman were arrested from the spot. During the interrogation of the three accused, the involvement of two more persons identified as Rishabh Jain and Kanhaiya Lal in the manufacture of illegal narcotic drugs came to light. Police has launched efforts arrest the two.
During interrogation, Sanjay Kumar said that he earlier used to work in a factory in Selaqui area, whose owner Usman used to manufacture narcotic drugs illegally in the said factory and from this he also came to know about the demand and supply of these drugs. He said that after Usman was arrested by Punjab Police three years ago, Sanjay took a food license in the name of Green Herbal Company in 2023 and started manufacturing narcotic drugs.
Sanjay Kumar (39) and Shivkumar (36) are residents of Badgaon in Saharanpur district and the third accused Rehman (38) is a resident of Chandauli district in Uttar Pradesh.
Police said that 1921 capsules/tablets, 592 bottles of syrup and 342 empty wrappers were recovered from the factory.
Drug Controller Tajbar Jaggi said that the factory did not have a license for the narcotics drugs that were being manufactured there.
Jaggi said that the medicines being made in the said factory are psychotropic and excessive consumption of these makes a person intoxicated. He said that the trend of such medicines is increasing as an alternative to intoxication. He said that this entire game will be exposed and the culprits will be given strict punishment.
He said that in the last one year, 862 establishments were raided and their samples were collected. He said that action is being taken to cancel the licenses of two companies and a recommendation has been made to register a criminal case against five companies. He said that the sale and purchase of products of 72 companies has been banned.
State Health Secretary and Commissioner of Food Safety and Drug Control Administration Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar said that the campaign of raids against fake medicines will continue in the state. He said that those making fake or substandard medicines will not be spared and strict legal action will be taken against them.
